Abstract

For over 70 years, the history of nuclear medicine has been closely intertwined with the use of iodine in the diagnosis and therapy of thyroid disorders, one of the few medical procedures that have stood this extensive test of time. Technetium-based methods of parathyroid imaging emerged in the 1970s and remain a mainstay of diagnosis until the present. The current chapter explores the background and use of these techniques in the current era.
