Abstract

Reports emerging from the Sequenced Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression (STAR*D) study 1-6 promise an enormous advance in the treatment of depression both in primary care and mental health settings. 7 The results would seem to apply, with minor reservations, to older adults with depressive disorders. A brief review of the study subjects, measures, methods, and outcomes follows to describe the strengths and limitations.
