Abstract

The novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic placed incredible strain on health-care systems worldwide. Persons with diabetes (PWD) were among those at greatest risk. Of this cohort, persons with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) were especially susceptible due to their high acuity. There was a significant impact on the logistical and pathophysiological effects of the viral infection itself on PWD. The pandemic has required changes to this system in the field of managing patients with DFU and accelerated the establishment of once-novel forms of treatment. This chapter will review the presentation and management of DFU with special insights into the role the pandemic played in delivering care.
