N2 - It was with great interest that I read the article entitled “Rubella: Reinfection of vaccinated and naturally immune persons” by Horstmann et al. (New Eng J Med 283: 771–778, 1970). The article points out that there is still a very real possibility that rubella will occur. It seems to be a good suggestion to obstetricians that all pregnant women have antibody titers for rubella taken at the beginning of their pregnancy, and that samples be taken at three months and six months during the pregnancy, to detect the possibility of subclinical infections of rubella.
