Abstract
Schizoaffective disorder should be considered in a patient who has significant mood and psychotic symptoms together for more than 6 months, as well as at least a 2-week period of psychotic symptoms in the absence of disturbed mood. With the increasing number of persons surviving into late life with schizoaffective disorder, it is critical that geriatrics providers become more familiar with this perplexing condition. In this Psychiatry Rounds case presentation, Drs. Quam and Kennedy discuss the diagnostic criteria and treatment options for elderly persons with this disorder.
