Relative vulnerability of item-information in short-term storage for the missing scan

Abstract

The relative vulnerability of item-information in short-term storage for the missing scan was investigated by comparing error distributions when 12 out of 13 numbers were presented sequentially, either with or without presentation of one additional number. Differential vulnerability by serial position was not found. Differential reporting of numbers with error gradients around correct responses in the ordinal sequence 13-25 suggests that this sequence in long-term storage may be implicated in such short-term storage, and that the missing scan may involve storage of the same kind of item-information utilized by natural serial-order recall of numbers.
