Abstract
Since children with chronic illness need the skills and technical expertise of both health professionals and educators, these groups must learn to work together in a team effort on behalf of the child. In order to maximize communications between the health care providers and educators in special educational programs it is necessary to understand concepts about chronic illness and the ways that health professionals are trained and work within the medical care system and the local community. Suggestions are made about the type of information that educators should obtain from and communicate to health care providers and issues that may enhance effective communication with those in the health system.
