Abstract
A Tc-99m red blood cell bleeding scan was obtained in a 76-year-old man with frank rectal bleeding. In addition to accurately localizing the anatomic site of bleeding to the sigmoid region, a left-sided pelvic kidney was observed which displaced the sigmoid colon out of the pelvis, into the lower abdomen. This finding was useful to the angiographer in allowing rapid catheterization of the inferior mesenteric artery and accurate positioning of the patient for the subsequent arteriogram.
