The pediatric cancer patient presents a considerable diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The anesthesiologist plays an important role throughout hospitalization and recovery by using knowledge of pediatric physiology in anesthetic care. It is important to develop a bond with the patient, the caregivers, and other physicians involved in managing the patient. The ability to provide relief from pain has led to vast improvements in outcome as well as patient satisfaction.
