Abstract

In this article we discuss the central disorders of hypersomnolence, particularly narcolepsy types 1 and 2, idiopathic hypersomnia, and Kleine-Levin Syndrome. Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is a major characteristic of all of the disorders in this group, but history, ancillary symptoms, and diagnostic testing can be used to differentiate them from one another. Each of these disorders' features, epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment are discussed.
