Abstract

Labor and delivery of a child can be very gratifying and a joyous occasion for all but may be both an intensely emotional and potentially uncomfortable experience for the mother. An anesthesiologist’s role is to provide a pleasant and safe environment for both the mother and child in the peripartum period while considering the changes of pregnancy that can alter anesthetic pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of drugs affecting the baby and mother.
