Abstract

A compound may be neurotoxic by virtue of being targeted to perturb some metabolic, structural, or functional property characteristic of myelin or myelinating cells. Myelin and myelination are described in this section, with emphasis on points relevant to understanding neurotoxic mechanisms. More information is readily available in collections of more specialized reviews of subtopics relevant to myelin.
