Abstract

The rigid bronchoscope has been the mainstay of therapy for resecting obstructive neoplasms of the trachea and main-stem bronchi. A technique using the rigid bronchoscope and simultaneously a flexible scope allows for the advantages of rigid bronchoscopy with the advantages of highly accurate fiber-directed laser resections via the flexible scope. Patient selection is discussed so that candidates for laser resection will receive maximum palliative benefit. A detailed description of the technique and potential hazards of the procedure is presented.
