Abstract
K:Cl cotransport (KCl) was examined in transgenic mice expressing exclusively human hemoglobin C. In contrast to previous studies in early transgenic mice expressing human α and βs and residual mouse globins, we found significant volume and pH stimulation and sensitivity to NO3-. Exposure to physiological levels of HCO3- also blocked a significant fraction of KCl cotransport
