Abstract
This chapter covers the fundamental aspects of intraprocedural imaging, related to the surgical replacement or repair of the aortic valve and its corresponding transcatheter, the TAVI. Frequently, echocardiography in the operating room shows unexpected pathological findings, e.g. mitral valve diseases and other neglected conditions (undetected ventricular dysfunctions). The chapter covers step by step all the imaging related to this management. The correct diagnosis and visualization of intraoperative complications (aortic dissection, coronary occlusion, pericardial tamponade, myocardial infarction, etc.) are explained and discussed in detail. The central role in this intraprocedural context is played mostly by echocardiography and by angiography, with inferences on the usefulness of intracardiac ultrasound in specific clinical scenarios. Moreover, application of other advanced imaging modalities, such as echo-fluoro fusion and computed tomography-fluoro imaging, are treated.
