Inpatient Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) accounts for a significant proportion of hospitalizations. Hyperglycemia itself, even without a diagnosis of diabetes, is commonly encountered in acutely ill patients. Both inpatient hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia have been associated with increased short- and long-term complications. Evidence-based use of insulin and achievement of inpatient-specific glycemic targets can reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with T2DM.
