Abstract

This study applied the autoradiographic method of I.J. Singh and E.A. Tonna to histologically visualize the effect of the CaP implant biomaterials on new bone formation and bone repair by osteoblast uptake of tritium labeled Proline. The autoradiographic method which demonstrates 5H-Proline incorporation in new bone formation and bone repair may be a measure that closely reflects in vivo performance of implant materials. Further investigation may serve to provide substantiation of an osteogenic effect that has not yet been established for these implant materials.
