Improved Waterproofing With Duct Tape in Pediatric Hip Spica Casting

Abstract

While pediatric hip spica casting is an invaluable tool to treat hip and femur conditions, effectively waterproofing the cast has represented a persistent challenge for the orthopaedist. We describe a simple technique that uses duct tape to allow for better waterproofing in the hopes of limiting unnecessary cast changes and skin complications.
