Abstract
This chapter begins with a discussion of the classification of peripheral nerve diseases. These are different ways to categorize human peripheral nerve disease: by modality (e.g., motor versus sensory), by fiber size affected (e.g., large versus small), or by anatomical distribution and pathology. The latter approach is favored because it stresses the site of probably pathological change, using clinical and electrophysiological data. The chapter then discusses the diagnosis of peripheral neuropathies.
