Abstract
“Glial bundles” in the proximal portion of the anterior spinal roots, identical to those in Werdnig‐Hoffmann disease, were observed in 3 patients many years after attacks of acute paralytic anterior poliomyelitis. These structures should therefore be considered a nonspecific astrocytic reaction secondary to the destruction of motor neurons and their axons rather than a malformation specific for Werdnig‐Hoffmann disease.
