Abstract
In the past several years, cloud-based computing has become a major trend for all levels of computer users. This article examines the reasons surrounding this trend. It focuses in particular on how cloud computing is being used by librarians, scientists, and end users. Data storage and sharing, applications, and product development are examples of the growing number of functions finding a home in the cloud. This article also looks at areas of concern relating to the cloud, including issues of privacy and security. Because cloud computing is likely to increase in popularity, librarians need to position themselves to take full advantage of this trend.
