Abstract

Advancements in the early detection and effective treatment of cancer have led to a significant decline in mortality among cancer patients. The resultant improvement in survival brings new challenges such as the recognition and management of arrhythmias as a result of the neoplasia or its treatment. The exact prevalence and incidence of cancer-related arrhythmia are unknown. There could be several plausible explanations for it, such as the absence of cardiac monitoring as part of the old chemotherapy trials, exclusion of cancer patients in cardiology trials, the exclusion of patients at higher risk of developing cardiotoxicity from oncology trials, and the combination of different chemotherapy regimens or chemotherapy along with radiation. In this chapter, we discuss the various cardiac rhythm disturbances arising from cancer as well as secondary to chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
