Abstract
This peper summarizes the defects reported to date in β +- and β(°)- thalassemia, and gives details about recent results in two different kinds of β°-thalassemia In addition, we describe new polymorphisms in the β-globin genes which may be useful in the antenatal diagnosis of the β-thalassemias, and in following the evolution of β-thalassemia genes.
