Abstract
Studies using electron microscopy and immunofluorescence have been performed on cells infected with five different groups of temperature-sensitive mutants of reovirus type 3. Mutants of groups A and E induce normal appearing viral factories. Mutants of group B induce factories which accumulate viral cores, while factories of groups C and D accumulate empty viral capsids. It is suggested that the latter three genetic groups consist of mutants with defects in virion assembly.
