Recently renamed rhe Office of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (OCAM), it serves as a clearinghouse of information and encourages research in the field. The budget has increased steadily since 1992, reaching \$11.1 million in 1997. With the goal of providing scientific evaluation of CAM, OCAM provides grants for basic science and clinical research as well as funding the development of centers for CAM research.",
