Abstract
Plain Language Summary: What is this summary about? This is a summary of an original clinical study that tested the effect of rimegepant orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) in treating migraine. The safety of this medicine was also evaluated. Rimegepant has been proven effective in treating migraine when taken as a standard capsule or tablet. This clinical study used a new type of rimegepant tablet that dissolves in the mouth in seconds and tested how well it works, how safe it is, and how well it is tolerated in treating migraine. What were the results of this study? One dose of study medicine (either rimegepant [75 mg] or placebo) was given to each study participant to treat a migraine attack. Placebo is a tablet that contained no rimegepant but looked and tasted like rimegepant ODT. Compared to those taking placebo, more study participants taking rimegepant became free from pain and the symptom, other than pain, that bothered them most. The most common side effects (an unwanted effect of study medicine) that occurred in study participants were nausea (queasy, stomach feels upset), urinary tract infection and dizziness. Each of these side effects occurred in 2% or less of study participants. Rates of side effects were similar in study participants taking rimegepant or placebo. What do the results of the study mean? Rimegepant can treat migraine attacks with no or few side effects. What were the main conclusions reported by the researchers? A single 75 mg. dose of rimegepant in a tablet that dissolves in the mouth in seconds was more effective than placebo in treating a migraine attack. It was as well tolerated as the placebo, with no safety issues. This is an abstract of the Plain Language Summary of Publication article.
