Abstract
The serious and sometimes fatal consequences of malnutrition in the surgical patient mean that we should expend efforts to correct nutritional deficits before surgery, but before we can do this we must identify the patients at risk. Simple, clinically applicable, available, and inexpensive nutritional markers can identify such patients. 30 References are cited.
