Abstract
A 54-year-old woman had a history of small-cell carcinoma of the right lung and differentiated ductal carcinoma of the right breast. She had a lumpectomy and chemotherapy for the breast lesion, but the lung carcinoma was inoperable and was treated with radiation. A chest radiograph showed a large pleural effusion, which proved to be malignant. A bone scan requested to evaluate possible osseous metastases revealed an unusual, large photon-deficient area in the entire right hemithorax corresponding to the large pleural effusion.
