Abstract
Lead (Pb) is a naturally occurring heavy metal, abundant in the environment and a very common biological contaminant. It is a ubiquitous health hazard that poses a major risk, first and foremost for children. Lead may adversely affect the nervous system and impair its development in the critical stages during the fetal period and infancy. This overview examines its health hazards, mechanisms of toxicity, clinical manifestations, and medical treatment.
