Abstract

This study examined the ability of the Kindergarten Screening Battery (KSB) to predict first-grade reading placement, first-grade reading and math achievement, and second-grade reading, math, and listening comprehension achievement. The subjects were bright kindergartners (mean Full Scale IQ = 132.7 ± 7.3) from families of high socioeconomic status. The results indicated that the KSB was an effective predictor of the first and second grade criteria and that the KSB would be a useful adjunct to intelligence tests when intellectually gifted populations are screened for other special educational needs.
