Abstract

The hypothalamus of the brain can become inflamed during aging and in metabolic diseases. In this Perspective, Cai and Khor provide an overview of the mediators, signaling components, and physiological impact of hypothalamic microinflammation. They draw parallels between aging and the metabolic syndrome and highlight important questions to be addressed.
