Abstract
Diarrhea and its complications are common in older adults. Fecal impaction, infections and adverse drug events are particularly relevant in this age group. Residence in long-term care facilities is a predisposition. Higher diarrhea related mortality may be due to the presence of comorbid conditions. While the precise cause of diarrhea is unrecognized in many, a systematic evaluation may help identify common causes and minimize complications.
