Abstract

The original version of this article unfortunately contained mistakes. In the Abstract the last sentence of the section Results should be “MRSA IE was the only variable found to have significant association with in-hospital death.” instead of “Increasing age, MRSA IE, and active malignancy were the only variables found to have significant association with in-hospital death.” In the “Result” section, the 11 sentence should read “There were significant differences between the two cohorts in the mean age (59.58 vs. 50.47 years, p < 0.001), mean BMI (27.03 vs 23.9, p = 0.001), hypertension (69.8 vs. 87.4%, p < 0.001), CAD (26.7 vs 14.6%, p = 0.042), COPD (10.5 vs. 2.1%, p = 0.018), hemodialysis (19.8 vs. 9.4%, p = 0.045), IVDU (16.3 vs. 33.3%, p = 0.008), active malignancy (9.3 vs. 2.1%, p = 0.033), and recent hospitalization (44.2 vs. 15.6%, p < 0.001).” instead of “There were significant differences between the two cohorts in the median age (56.5 vs. 50 years, p < 0.001), median BMI (25.9 vs 22.5, p = 0.001), hypertension (69.8 vs. 87.4%, p < 0.001), CAD (26.7 vs 14.6%, p = 0.042), COPD (10.5 vs. 2.1%, p = 0.018), hemodialysis (19.8 vs. 9.4%, p = 0.045), IVDU (16.3 vs. 33.3%, p = 0.008), active malignancy (9.3 vs. 2.1%, p = 0.033), and recent hospitalization (44.2 vs. 15.6%, p < 0.001).” In section “Logistic regression analysis—predictors of in hospital death”, the paragraph should read “The univariate associations with in-hospital mortality were examined for all the baseline demographic and clinical characteristics, as well as selected characteristics related to IE. Increasing age (analyzed per 10 years), SNF residence, atrial fibrillation, COPD, and active malignancy were found to have a significant univariate association with in-hospital death, while IVDU and MRSA IE were at the verge of statistical significance (Table 6). In the multivariable analysis, MRSA IE (OR: 3.71; 95% CI 1.31–10.55; p = 0.014 in model 2) was the only variable found to have significant association with in-hospital death, while active malignancy (OR: 3.55; 95% CI 0.88–14.37; p = 0.076 in model 1) and atrial fibrillation (OR: 2.72; 95% CI 0.86–8.65; p = 0.090 in model 2) were at the verge of statistical significance. The logistic regression analysis is presented in Table 6.” instead of “The univariate associations with in-hospital mortality were examined for all the baseline demographic and clinical characteristics, as well as selected characteristics related to IE. Increasing age (analyzed per 10 years), SNF residence, and active malignancy were found to have a signifcant univariate association with in-hospital death, while IVDU and MRSA IE were at the verge of statistical signifcance (Table 6). In the multivariable analysis, increasing age (OR: 1.34; 95% CI 1.02–1.76; p = 0.036 in model 1 and OR: 1.39; 95% CI 1.03–1.86; p = 0.029 in model 2) and MRSA IE (OR: 4.08; 95% CI 1.38–12.08; p = 0.011 in model 2) were the only variables found to have signifcant associations with in-hospital death, while active malignancy was at the verge of statistical signifcance (OR: 3.58; 95% CI 0.99–12.96; p = 0.052 in model 1 and OR: 3.81; 95% CI 0.98–14.78; p = 0.053 in model 2). The logistic regression analysis is presented in Table 6.” In the Discussion section, in the last sentence of the first paragraph under item (5), the sentence should read “5) MRSA IE was found to be associated with a higher likelihood for in-hospital death.” instead of “(5) increasing age, active malignancy, and MRSA IE was found to be associated with a higher likelihood for in-hospital death.” In the Discussion section, fifth paragraph, the fourth sentence should read “MRSA IE was the only predictor of higher likelihood for in-hospital death identified in the multivariate analysis.” instead of “Increasing age, active malignancy, and MRSA IE were the only predictors of higher likelihood for in-hospital death identifed in the multivariate analysis.” In the Discussion section, seventh paragraph, the fourth sentence should read “MRSA IE was found to be associated with a higher likelihood for in-hospital death.” instead of “Increasing age, active malignancy, and MRSA IE were found to be associated with a higher likelihood for in-hospital death.” The original article has been corrected.
