Abstract
AIDS/ARC in children manifests itself as a series of clinical disorders which share a common underlying immunodeficiency. This disordered immune state encompasses both T and B cell dysfunction, and possible abnormalities in macrophage function as well. Transmission is via infected blood products or as a vertical in utero infection from infected parents. Horizontal transmission from child to child is apparently negligible at this time. Treatment is supportive, although prognosis appears to be better than in adults. Intravenous gammaglobulin is apparently helpful in treating these children.
